Stan Lee And Me
By Nino Bellieny
Contrary to what the title suggests, I have not met the comic book master myself, yet I must have known him much more than many other human beings throughout my life. Before I learned to read, I was already "reading" comic-stories, being the first characters to be part of my universe, those created by Walt Disney.

My parents tell me that I would laugh at the drawings and they would check if there was symmetry between what I saw and the scenes. There were. Even without reading, I went into history. I was 3 years old and would never leave the comic books aside.

At age six I met the first adventures of the super heroes of Stan Lee and his Marvel colleagues. Before he was a friend of Batman, Superman, Tarzan and the American West's gunmen, Marvel's creatures were more current, suffering the same problems as humanity, had bills to pay, solutions to look for, confused feelings, teenage passions and many other similarities with the day to day of mortals.

At age 11 I met Spider-Man and I could not help but feel what the young hero felt: everything that a teenager like me lived, although without the super powers, but with the super responsibilities of the always violent passage of the world for the adult.

Stan Lee knew everything and this all distressing and explosive, happened to the comics.
The news of his death did not surprise me. In Marvel's latest film, in which he appeared on a quick tip as usual, I felt a sort of farewell.

My old master left, leaving his thousands of heroes and anti-heroes. Looking at my grown-up collection, I notice that he and his fellow graphic artists like Jack Kirby and others are present in most of my more than 2.000 copies.

And especially in my concepts of Ethics and Duties as a Human being, because the Stories-in-Comics were my first Code of Honor.

Thank you Stan Lee.

One sees in some of these parallel universes, in galaxies as near as distant, in possible worlds much more than we imagine. Meanwhile in every comic and film frame, I still learn the secret of life.
